About ACSS:
The African Crop Science Society was formed in 1993 with overall goal of promoting crop production and food security in the continent. The society meets once every two years, 1993 in Kampala, Uganda; in 1995 Blantyre, Malawi; in 1997 Pretoria, South Africa; in 1999 Casablanca, Morocco, in 2001 Lagos, Nigeria; in 2003 Nairobi, Kenya; in 2005 Entebbe, Uganda, in 2007 El-Minia, Egypt, and will meet in 2009 in Cape Town, South Africa.

CNPq-TWAS Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable at research institutions in Brazil for a minimum period of 6 months to a maximum period of 12 months. They are awarded to scientists from developing countries (other than Brazil) to enable them to pursue postdoctoral research in the natural sciences.
Eligibility:
Applicants for postdoctoral fellowships should:
- Be permanent residents in a developing country other than Brazil;
- Be a maximum age of forty-five (45) years on December 31st of the year of application to the CNPq-TWAS programme;
- Hold a university degree (minimum qualification is a PhD degree);
- Be a regular employee in a developing country (other than Brazil) and hold a research assignment there;
- Provide evidence that he/she will return to his/her home country on completion of the fellowship;
- Not take up other assignments during the period of his/her fellowship;
- Provide a certificate of proficiency in English (if this language is not the candidate’s mother tongue);
- Provide an acceptance letter from the chosen Brazilian host institution;
- Have an updated Curriculum Vitae on CNPq’s Lattes Platform;
- Present a detailed research plan agreed by his/her host supervisor;
- Be financially responsible for any accompanying family member.

- Undergraduate and Master’s degree transcripts
- PhD degree certificate and transcripts
- Curriculum Vitae and list of publications
- Official letter of acceptance in accordance to the sample acceptance letter available here
- Supporting statement from the head/director of the applicant’s employer
- 2 Reference letters
- Certificate of proficiency in English
- A copy of passport. Only the page with personal details is required.
- Passport size photograph
General Information:
- Applicants already in Brazil are not eligible.
- Women scientists are especially encouraged to apply.
- Applications for part-time Fellowships will be considered ineligible.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Application Procedure:
The 2010 CNPq-TWAS Fellowships programmes are open only to young scientists from developing countries, other than Brazil. It is important to note that the Brazilian scientists or students cannot apply for fellowships under the CNPq-TWAS Fellowships programmes but they can apply for fellowships under all the other TWAS Fellowships programmes.
